Winery: Ugolini
Valle Alta Amarone 2013
Our suitcase wine is a blend of all three grapes (Corvina, Corvinone, and Rondinella) which were hand selected, and after 90 days of drying spent one year in barrique, and then two years in oak casks. The aroma is of intense ripe fruit; notes cherry jam and sweet spices like cinnamon and nutmeg. This is a big wine with a velvety texture yet very elegant and refined.
We enjoyed a private visit with a tour of the property, learning the history and gaining an understanding of the vineyards terroir. The estate has a huge wrap around deck, which sits high above the vineyards. It was a nice day so we enjoyed our tasting outside in this lovely setting.
Tenute Ugolini is a wonderful estate re-purposing a 12th century monastery to house their tasting room and production facility. The vineyards have been part of the Ugolini family for generations but they only became wine producers in 2010. With 22 hectares classified biodynamic each wine is produced in single vineyard bottlingβs.
