Winery: La Dama
La Dama, Ca’ Besi Valpolicella Classico Superiore
Our suitcase wine, Valpolicella Classico Superiore, is a single vineyard blend of 50% Corvina, 25% Corvinone, 20% Rondinella and 5% Molinara. It was fermented in steel tanks and spent two years in large wood barrels. A portion of the grapes was set aside and dried for forty days, pressed and then put in barrique barrels for two years. These were then combined to produce the final wine.
Dark ruby red in color, vibrant aromas of cherries, blackberries, spice, black pepper, and hints of vanilla. This wine has a great balance of fruit and acidity with velvety tannins that carry through to a full-bodied finish.
La Dama is a small winery run by a young couple, Gabriele and Miriam. The backstory is they meet in college. Mariam is from the area and Gabriele had a passion to be a winemaker. With the help of Miriam’s parents they were able to purchase the land and start the winery in 2006.
They have 10 hectares located in two different municipalities of the Classic Valpolicella. They have great respect for the land and farm biodynamically. They are happy to have visitors and share their passion through stories and their wines.
